“Experience brighter, softer, smoother looking skin and an energising facial massage. Simply spend two minutes twice a day to enjoy healthier, youthful looking skin in as little as two weeks.”Nu Skin on the AgeLOC LumiSpa
Cleansing brushes are the talk of the town & have been for a number of years – but not without some debate. Whilst many swear by these gizmos, there are many that persuade you to keep them out of your bathroom and definitely off your skin to avoid damaging your delicate skin barrier, inflammation and a flare up of breakouts. Thankfully cleansing gadgets are evolving. It’s all about finding a balance between thorough cleansing, exfoliating and gentleness to your skin. Enter the ageLOC LumiSpa by Nu Skin.
What is it?
A rechargeable, waterproof, handheld electric skin cleansing device with a removable silicone head (no bacteria-harboring bristles on this one!). You are able to change the head either according to your skin type or to the LumiSpa Accent which can be used on the delicate skin around your eyes (Best used together with the Ideal Eyes Brightening cream). A single cleansing session last two minutes, pausing every 30 seconds to indicate that you need to move on to the next section of your face. My favorite feature is if you’re pushing down too hard on your skin the device will pause letting you know that you need to calm the heck down. The head is super easy to clean unlike the brush devices, run under warm water and dry off. Each LumiSpa comes with a cleanser of your preference depending on your skin type (oily, dry, sensitive, normal to combination, or blemish prone).
How does it work?
I think everyone is curious about how it works, is the hype true, did God himself invent the thing. It’s not a magic wand guys but yes, God gave some amazing person this amazing idea so we can reap the benefits of it. If you haven’t watched my Instagram video showcasing my beauty routine WITH the Lumi, I’ll link it here. I did a full cleanse which is very evident in the video, from micellar water to wet wipes then to an oil based balm to loosen up my makeup before washing it with my favorite face wash, by this step most of us would dry off and moisturize. This is where I Lumi my face and the amount of makeup still laying on my skin was insane!!!! The Lumi claims to provide 7 benefits with every 2 minute session:
Who is it for?
Given that this device doesn’t come cheap, probably someone who can afford it comfortably. Here’s the thing, if I combine all of the bottles of exfoliate, charcoal masks, pore strips, and many others (believe me, there are MANY) and I calculate the amount of money I’ve spent I could have easily afforded the Lumi in a matter of a couple months, the problem is we don’t invest in our skin the way we should. We look for the cheapest option and we pay by having crappy skin, and that’s the truth.
Debunking the myths
There is no doubt that you’ve come across a Nuskin ad over the last few months, and more especially an advert of the Lumi Spa and all the many benefits of having one… is it as magical as the ads, yesssss but to an extent.
Your acne is not going to disappear in a month as if you’ve never had it friends but it is going to relatively assist in reducing anymore flare ups and reduce scarring alongside a full skincare regimen that you consistently follow, you’re not going to miraculously be a few shades lighter in a month either, your skin will definitely look brighter because the device will remove the dead skin that has been lurking on your face for a decade but your melanin levels will remain the same and most importantly it’s not a substitute for washing your face. As shown in the video, I still did my normal skincare routine of removing my makeup and washing my face but after all the many steps of cleansing I did my two minute Lumi spa session and still had some make up sitting on my skin. If you’re anything like me when it comes to skincare, I’d skip the dozens or face wipes and stick to a cotton pad to remove my eye makeup and move onto my face products: cleansing balm and face wash, let’s face it everyone should be a little environmentally conscious and it starts with ridding yourself of all the many wet wipes that honestly doesn’t clean anything on your face anyway!
I’m sure you’ve heard of ‘pores’ before when talking about skincare and everyone strives to reduce the appearance of their pores and obviously for it to be rid of any toxins and gunk from a day out or your daily makeup. The reason the Lumi spa is so popular is that it assists with clearing out your pores, ensuring that you go to bed with an actual clean face as well as it buffing off dead skin so that you’re not sitting with a build up of dirt that essentially contributes to flare ups and break outs. Given that you’re instructed to use the Lumi twice a day but I’m lazy and only use it in the morning mostly – if I did use this twice a day, I’d have the best skin in the world and Jessica Alba would be jealous but it’s incredible how amazing my skin has felt and looks with my once a day session.
Here’s to glowing skin.
