‘What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well.’ – Antoine De Saint-Exupery
When I woke up this morning, I was partly terrified. I would be flying to California with the girls for the first time, EVER.
My host dad, Dave, has some work in California and since it is my host mom’s busy week, they decided to get the girls and I there to spend a few days instead of staying home while they were on vacation.
So growing up in Richards Bay, I’ve been exposed to hot weather, very hot weather, but my goodness this place felt like hell.
We guzzled bottles of water and occasionally we just sat in the hotel room in silence.
Thankfully, despite the heat, the girls had a good time. We got them addicted to mario kart, which was a great idea because they wanted to play for hours and the game room was an air conditioned centre a few minutes from our hotel room [SCORE]. There were Sundae making, and porcelain painting, plus a whole lot of other video and arcade games to keep them busy. It was great for the adults who really didn’t feel like sitting out in the 100 degree Fahrenheit weather watching the girls splash around in the swimming pool.
The idea was to go back home in a few days but there is much more going on in this trip than I expected…
Exciting stuff will follow.
Time to guzzle down the 10th bottle of water.
xoxo ♥
